Mahindra & Mahindra on Tuesday, launched its much-anticipated models, the XEV 9e and BE 6e, part of its Born Electric range. The XEV 9e Pack One is priced at Rs 21.90 lakh, ex-showroom, with market availability slated for January 2025, followed by deliveries beginning in February. In a groundbreaking move, the manufacturer has conducted a live EV crash test on the XEV 9e, showcasing its robust safety credentials at its Tamil Nadu Passive Safety Lab.
Mahindra XEV 9e crash test: Observations
The XEV 9e underwent a 40 percent frontal offset crash test at 64 kmph right in front of us. All airbags deployed effectively, and the vehicle’s cabin remained intact.
Besides that, dummies too appeared intact and while no ratings were given as it wasn’t a GNCAP or BNCAP test, the structure of the car seemed to absorb the forces and distribute it in a way that kept the cabin safe.
To reinforce safety, Mahindra conducted several battery resilience tests. A live battery cell withstood a nail penetration test without catastrophic failure, retained its integrity during a fire resistance test, and survived a crush test with a 22-tonne truck driven over it.
